From the LIAC website: Junior Maggie Aroesty, of Long Beach, was named Outstanding Swimmer of the meet. Maggie was the state champion in both the 200 IM and the 100 Breaststroke. Her time in the 100 Breaststroke of 1:00.00 is a new NYS record! Her 200 IM time of 1:58.49 is just two tenths off the state record, set in 2006 by USA Olympian Julia Smit! Maggie was also a part of Long Beach’s 200 Medley Relay which crushed the NYS record by two seconds. Kimmy Chan, a junior at Sewanhaka, was scheduled to be an alternate in the 500 Freestyle finals, but with a late no-show in the event had the opportunity to compete in finals! Freshman Lauryn Johnson, of Sacred Heart, certainly was not intimidated at her first state meet. Lauryn finished 2nd in the state in the 100 Butterfly in a new best time of 55.29! Lauryn also just missed breaking the 5:00 barrier in the 500 Freestyle in prelims with a new PB of 5:00.65. At finals (twenty minutes after her great 100 Butterfly) Lauryn raced to a 6th place finish in the 500! Joanna McNulty, a sophomore at The Mary Louis Academy, swam two personal best times in prelims. Her 500 preliminary time of 5:04.89 qualified her for the A-Final in the event. She also competed in the C-Final of the 100 Butterfly after her 58.75 in prelims. Kristen Romano, of Long Beach, won the state title in both the 100 Butterfly (54.76) and the 100 Backstroke (54.28). Both swims were within tenths of those state records! Kristen swam a great lead off leg for Long Beach’s record setting Medley relay. She also swam a 50.87 leading off the 400 Freestyle Relay for LB. Chloe Stepanek, an eighth grader in Northport, held her own at her first state meet. As one of the youngest competitors in the field, Chloe won the B-Final of the 200 Freestyle, won the C-Final of the 500 Freestyle and led off her 400 Freestyle Relay with a new PB of 53.91. Not bad for an eighth grader! Senior Cara Treble won the 200 Freestyle with a new public State Record in 1:48.01. Cara has battled in this event for the last few years and in her senior year took home the gold! Cara also finished 3rd overall in the 100 Freestyle.
